Just 12 miles south of the city of Greenville, Simpsonville is one of the most desirable suburbs in the Upstate. Over the last 20 years, the population inside Simpsonville’s city limits has grown by 133%, and it shows no signs of stopping.
In 1838, a man named Peter Simpson decided to start a smithery at a crossroads of Old Stage Road and Cherokee Trail. Then Silas Gilbert built a general store. Next came a post office, and it was official. Originally dubbed Plain, the area became Simpsonville in 1886.
Simpsonville is just a 20 minute drive to downtown Greenville, but it’s a drive you make because you want to, not because you have to. Offering everything you need right here, the greater Simpsonville area is divided into 4 major commercial areas.
Traditional Main Street feel with local shops and restaurants, community events and historic architecture
National retailers and large commercial developments
The Brashier Campus of Greenville Technical College, medical offices, and grocery stores
Local and regional franchises
The city of Simpsonville makes a concerted effort to maintain a hometown feel even as its location spurs incredible growth. The local government drafted a 2040 Comprehensive Plan to help manage and direct Simpsonville’s growth and developments, ensuring that the area will maintain its charm and it’s economic and social attractiveness.
