In 1838, a man named Peter Simpson decided to start a smithery at a crossroads of Old Stage Road and Cherokee Trail. Then Silas Gilbert built a general store. Next came a post office, and it was official. Originally dubbed Plain, the area became Simpsonville in 1886.
