Our Favorite Family-Friendly Activities for Fall

Family Fun Activities in the Greenville, SC Area

After a long few weeks of stifling heat, the team here at Wilson Associates is looking forward to fall. The Greenville area is great in general – and there’s tons of fun to be had in the summer – but when it comes to fall family fun and awesome autumnal activities, Greenville pulls out the stops.

In this article, we’re taking a look at a couple of our favorite fall family activities in the area – from trips to the farm to apple picking and pumpkin patches, there’s something for everyone!

Hay Rides and Farm Fun at Strawberry Hill

Is there anything that says “fall” more than a hayride and a visit to the farm? At Strawberry Hill Cooley Farms, you can spend a fun day at the farm taking part in all of the fall activities that have become such a quintessential part of the season. From taking a trip through the corn maze and picking pumpkins to enjoying a hayride around the farm to visit the animals and grab a scoop of ice cream, Strawberry Hill Cooley Farms has something that everyone in the family will enjoy!

Denver Downs

Denver Downs Farm is taking Fall Festivals to a whole new level. Kicking off later this month, they’ll have live music every weekend, pumpkin patches, mazes, and bonfires for the whole family to enjoy. The Fall Festival boasts nearly 40 family-friendly activities (including gem mining, a mega slide, ropes course, and more!), tons of great food, delicious drinks, and plenty of farm animals to visit. Be sure to purchase tickets in advance.

Apple Picking at Jeter Mountain Farm

Apple Picking is a tried and true family favorite for Fall, and Jeter Mountain Farm is one of the best around. Check out their website to see which apple varieties are available for picking each day – they have over 20 types of apples in their orchards!

Once you’re done picking apples they’ve got tons of treats to enjoy – from hard cider and smoked BBQ to lattes from the coffeehouse and treats in the bakery. There’s also an indoor play area for the little ones to enjoy while the grown-ups kick back and relax.

Turkey Trot

For anyone looking to get their heart rate up, run for a good cause, and have a ton of fun doing it, a number of Turkey Trots are happening in November. The Shriners will be hosting their annual Family Festival, Turkey Trot, and Fun Walk on November 11. For anyone interested in an event that’s a bit more competitive (but still a great time!), check out TreesUpdate’s Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot. They have both an 8k Run and a 5K Fun Run – with a costume contest! – with cash prizes to the top three finishers in male and female categories for both race lengths.

Local Festivals and Fairs

Looking for something a little bit different? Fall for Greenville – taking place October 13-15 in Downtown Greenville – cannot be missed. This event is showcasing the best of everything Greenville has to offer: over 80 bands will be entertaining the crowds across six stages, while 50 restaurants serve more than 250 of Greenville’s favorite menu items, and over 50 beer taps and wine vendors help wet the grown ups’ whistles.

The Pumpkin Patch at the South Carolina Railroad Museum

This activity is a little bit further out, but if your kiddos (or you grownups!) are interested in trains, this will surely be a hit. Once you arrive at the Railroad Museum, you’ll board a train that takes you out to the pumpkin patch. After picking your favorite gourd, you’ll be given all of the supplies to paint it and make it truly your own. There will also be games and face painting available for everyone to enjoy. Once everyone’s finished up, you’ll board the train back to the museum. (Tickets required, dates and space are limited.)
