Just north Greenville, the city of Greer is a bustling community in the Upstate. Greer continues to be one of South Carolina’s fastest growing cities with a population of over 31,000 and climbing.
Greer began as a 200-acre farm owned by James Manning Greer. Greer sold some of the land to Southern Railroad and some to a developer who then sold plots of land for a planned business district. On March 25, 1876 the town was incorporated as “Greers” with William C. Bailey as mayor. The “s” in the town name was later dropped.
Greer spans more than 20 square miles with easy access to plenty of outdoor recreation including parks, mountains, and lakes. The city also has easy access to Interstate 85 and the Greenville Spartanburg Airport. It’s a great city for both families and young professionals.
